Terrace of 5 houses, with attached railings to Nos 8-14.
c1810-20, shown on the Post Office Map of 1820. Ashlar and
stucco over brick with slate roof to Nos 8 and 10 (otherwise
concealed), tall brick party-wall stacks to left of Nos 8 and
12 and to right of No.16; wrought- and iron railings, window
guards and porches.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys, attics to Nos 8 and 12; 10 first-floor
windows (2 per house). First- and second-floor bands; frieze,
cornice and blocking course. Ground and first floors have
mainly 6/6 sashes (where original), taller to first floor;
second floor has mainly 3/3 sashes (where original). Blind
boxes remain to first-floor windows of No.12. Entrances to
left to Nos 8, 10 and 14 and to left of Nos 10 and 16 (so
forming pairs except to No.8), mainly 4-panel, part-glazed
doors with fanlights. Attics: No.8 has 3/3 sash to roof
dormer; No.12 has skylight.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: tent porches (shared to paired entrances)
have scrolled lozenge-motifs to uprights and lower embellished
rods, with openwork frieze. Window guards to first floor have
varied ornamental motifs. Area railings to Nos 8, 10 and 12
have rods with rose and fleurs-de-lys, with lattice band and
scrolled lozenge panels, lancet railings to No. 14. No. 12 has
lancet forecourt railings.
HISTORICAL NOTE: addressed on Merrett's 1834 Map as Belle Vue
Place.
