Small house. C17 or earlier. Rendered cob and stone rubble; slate roof (formerly
thatched), gabled at ends ; rear right lateral stack.
Plan: Single depth plan, 2 or 3 rooms wide originally with a cross passage to right
of centre. It is not clear whether a stack is missing from the left end and there
have been some alterations to the left of the passage and the centre of the house is
now divided between a stair at the rear and small room at the front.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 4 window front with a C19 gabled porch to right of
centre with curly bargeboards. 4 very small C20 windows to the ground floor, 1 first
floor window and one attic dormer.
Interior: The right-hand room has a massive chamfered crossbeam with a step-stop and
exposed joists. C20 chimneypiece, probably concealing an earlier lintel and jambs.
Remainder of house and roof not inspected but may be of interest and could involve
revising the suggested dating. -
