Description

EXMINSTER
SX 98 NW

4/26 3 ranges of farmbuildings and a
- wall forming the farmyard
immediately to the north east of
Crablake Farmhouse
GV II

3 ranges of farmbuildings and a stone wall forming the farmyard to the north-east of
Crablake farmhouse. 1845 (datestone) with some late C20 adaptation. Ashlar masonry
with granite dressings; slate roofs.
Planned farmyard consisting of south facing barn with threshing loft (horse engine
house to rear demolished). Adjoining at right angles at the front left is a linhay
with probably a shippon opposite. The fourth side of the yard consists of a low
stone wall linking the shippon and linhay.
Handsome 2 storey barn with threshing loft dated 1845 with roof hipped at ends,
central loft entrance with a sloping slate roof carried on granite corbels and a
blocked entrance below with keystone. 4 loft openings with keystones, 2 ground floor
doorways with keystones, 1 ventilation slit ground floor left. The linhay range has
a loft and was originally weather-boarded, C20 alterations have made the building
partly open fronted on the ground floor. The shippon range is also lofted with a
large doorway with keystone left of centre and 3 ground floor windows with keystones.
2 first floor windows and 2 first floor ventilation slits.
A yard of handsome farmbuildings with superior detail forming a good group with the
farmhouse (qv) immediately to the south.
