4/53 Bransty Toll Bar

II


Toll-house, now private dwelling. Dated 1854 over door; built for Whitehaven
Turnpike Trust. Rendered rubble on chamfered plinth. Graduated slate roof with
rendered mid chimney; decorative barge-boards to gables. Single-storey, 3-bay
front has central part-glazed door and fanlight in chamfered surround with
4-centred head. Sash to right and canted, corniced, bay window to left. Single
sash under hoodmould to each return. All windows in chamfered surrounds.
