Almshouses. Dated 1573, but now mainly facade, remainder C20 rebuilding.
Squared and coursed limestone, stone slate roof. Two storeys, 6-windowed,
all 2-light chamfered mullion casements with one horizontal bar, no drips
or cills, 3 former doorways, now-2-light casements under 4-centred chamfered
heads; entrance, right, through C20 extension. Over left doorway cartouche
and Chandos arms with supporters; over central doorway recessed lias panel
inscribed: FOUNDED BY/LADY DOROTHY CHANDOS/OF/SUDELEY CASTLE ABOUT THE YEAR/
. .... (this was 1573)/AND .....LT BY/VOLUN .....TION/ A modest but comely
facade grouping with adjacent properties in Queens Square (qv). (See photo-
graphs in NMR and Donaldson, D N, A Portrait of Winchcombe, 1978).
