Manor house. Early C19 for Pole family, south and west facades and
enlargement by Guy Dawber. 1890-1. Rainwater head dated and
initialled PVNP 1891 on west facade. C20 extension rear left not of
special interest. Ashlar, slate and limestone slate roof.
'U'shaped plan with central porch projecting forward from main
body, wing extending, back rear right. 5-bay front. Central
portion 3 storeys, 2 windowed, with 2-storey, single windowed
extension at lower level on left, 2-storey, 2-window extension at
lower level on right. 2 and 3-light stone mullioned casements with
leaded panes to main body and left-hand extension. Window left of
porch with stilted headed lights with carved spandrels. Strings
over ground, first and second floor windows. 6 panelled door to
porch within stilted headed surround, moulded towards top, with
imposts extended out from moulding, carved spandrels and stopped
hood above. Roll moulded gable coping to porch with remains of
finial at apex and at eaves to either side. Saddleback coping to
roof parapet with ball finials. Parallel gables to main body with
gable end stacks, with moulded caps.
