Old Grammar School, now disused. 1726. Squared rubble on cement rendered plinth,
rusticated quoins to two projecting wings, smooth rendered elsewhere. Steep hipped
roof now plain tile. Two storeys, two- three- two window street facade. Sashes with
glazing bars in plat band surrounds with small lead moulding inner edge; heads
segmental with dropped key, but in one stone, as lintel. Central three bays wood
mullion and transom, projecting stone cills otherwise surround as older windows. Cyma
eaves cornice. No principal door to main facade; entrance in wings left and right.
Originally Lady Catherine Berkeley's Grammar School, founded 1384. School originally
shallow, centre bays fitted C19 but carefuly matched; stone walling less carefully
coursed. Projecting wing at rear, C19. Rebuild of 1926 (Lindley) op. cit.
