GV II

House. Early C18, altered in early C19. Stucco on brick with
slate roofs. An L-shaped, double-pile, 2-storeys house facing E.
1-storey rear outbuilding at NW joins to 2-storeys stable
alongside road, of brick and tile. Parallel roofs over each arm
of 2-storeys part. Symmetrical 3-window front with parapet and 2
2-storeys bays flanking the door and single sash window over with
8/8 panes. Modern classical porch replacing gabled Victorian
one. Elegant canted bay windows of small projection with parapet
carried round them above a deep band. Sash windows, with margin
lights to ground floor and 2/2 panes above. Gable chimney with
offsets projecting on N end. Art Nouveau fireplace on 1st floor.
Used by Robert Mylne before he built Amwell Grove in 1795-7 and
then called Amwell Cottage. Named Springfield in late C19. Part
of a group around Amwell Pool.
