C1820-25 a fine stuccoed Grecian villa. Two storeyed 3 bay symmetrical front
with additional bay splayed out to north. Flanking plain quoin pilasters but
the central entrance bay has a paired Grecian Corinthian order, supporting
deep entablature with acanthus scroll decorated frieze and pediment over
centre. Low hipped slate roof behind parapet. Windows glazing bar sashes in
eared architrave surrounds on ground floor. Portico porch with paired
Soanian incised piers, segmental arch, wreaths in frieze and pediment blocking
course. Architrave surround to round headed doorway, panelled reveal and
soffit; 2 leaf door: marginal glazed and panelled; fanlight with looped radial
pattern. The splayed additional bay has some fenestration with entablature
carried over from main block. The screen wall to coach house abuts the splay
with segmental arch, leading through to side stable yard. The rear garden
elevation on terrace has similar details to front but with the giant order
flanking each end bay surmounted by pediment. One of the earliest of the
gianter scale villa designs on the Calthorpe Estate.
