C1840-50 substantial 2 storey red brick villa with stucco dressings and
Italianate details. Three bay symmetrical front but with a 3 storey
projecting tower wing to south adjoining screen wall entrance from roadside to
coach house and yard. Plinth, bed mould to eaves returned on to tower wing as
second floor sill course. Hipped slate roofs with deep flat eaves, the main
block with tall brick chimney stacks. The left hand ground floor has had a
brick and stucco parapetted bay window inserted C1870, but otherwise
fenestration remains unaltered; first floor windows in architrave surrounds
with enriched scrolled aprons below sills. Right hand ground floor window
has swept feet to architrave rising from plinth, bolection frieze, cornice
and blocking course supporting apron of window above glazing bar sashes,
ground floor right with very narrow side lights. Central doorway: architrave
surround with enriched consoles supporting pediment; panelled reveals, soffit
and door. The tower wing has former doorway, new window, with stucco capped
brick pilasters and semi-circular rubbed brick arch. First and second floor
windows linked volutes to feet of architrave and pulvinated frieze and
cornice to first floor window acting as plinth to architrave of second floor
window. Setback extension to wing behind. Screen wall to road has yard gates
to stable coach house of red brick with hipped slate roof. Garden front has
2 storey canted bay windows with stucco dressings.
