Public house. C16 timber frame build, C19 brick front, C20 alterations. 2 storeys
with attic. Front range with ridge parallel to street,rear section with ridge at right
angles, ground floor has late C19 tripartite shop front, 2 plate glass windows,
Chinoiseriestyle glazing bars transom lights. Inserted C20 central door. Flat pilasters
with paired shaped brackets, narrow fascia with moulded cornice. First floor shallow
canted bay on chamfered arris plinth with x framing. 4 light plate glass casements,
upper lights withChinciserie glazing bars tiled roof. Raised brick framed gable
cartouche with raised lettering: "The Bat and Ball". Swept rounded gable parapet with
bullnose brick coping. 2-light dormer with tile hung gable. Internally surviving
timber frame visible on ground floor external side elevation ground-sill and some posts
surviving. moulded frame and 4-centred arch to door. Remains of original upper
jettied construction.Curved wind braces in front frames and in floor structures,green
post roof trusses. Once formed one built with adjacent No 12 Chequer Street.
