REDDITCH B CALLOW HILL SP 06 SW 4/23 Barn about 30 yards south of Callow Hill Farmhouse 10.4.54 (formerly listed as Barn at Callow Hill Farm)

Barn, now converted to two dwellings. Probably c1700 with mid-C18 additions; converted late C20. Timber-framed with brick infill, brick plinth, some weatherboarding and plain tiled roofs. L-plan; main part of five framed bays aligned east/west; central wagon bay with opposed cart entries and gabled midstrey to south; outer bays added at a slightly later date and cl750 a two-bay south return was also added to the west bay, -the northernmost bay of which is a wagon bay with opposed cart entries. Partly two levels; diaper ventilation patterns. Framing: three panels from sill to wall-plate; long straight braces across some lower corners; collar and tie-beam trusses with struts to original and present end bays; intermediate tie-beam trusses with raking struts; two tiers of trenched purlins. Elevations undergoing alteration at time of survey (June 1985). The building contains some reused timbers dating from c1500 including probably the central truss of a medieval hall identified by the mortices of its former mantel beam and the chamfers on posts and tie-beam.
