Milestone

A Grade II Listed Building in Little Malvern, Worcestershire

Little Malvern Milestone

Uploader's Comments

The milestone has what appears to be the broken remains of a metal plate on the other side.
Perhaps the stone has been moved from the other side of the road (when the road was widened) requiring a new plate.
It is located on the Malvern to Ledbury road yet gives the distances to these places as 3.5 and 4.5 miles. It also gives the distance from Upton in whole miles (i.e. 6)
Presumably it was erected as the last stone for the Upton turnpike though quite some distance from the start of that road.
Near the top of the stone one can just make out the arrow of a benchmark.
