BECKFORD CP GRAFTON SO 9837 - 9937 11/42 Manor Farmhouse and adjoining stable GV II

Farmhouse and adjoining stable. C17 with early and late C19 alterations and additions. Coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings and brick additions; slate roof with brick ridge stack to left of centre and at right end. Two storeys and cellar with moulded eaves cornice to brick part. 1:3:1 bays. Three-bay part has windows with hoodmoulds; on the ground floor is a 5-light C20 casement and a 4-light C19 casement and there are three 3-light C19 casements on the first floor. Central entrance has a porch with a swept hipped lead canopy on cast iron brackets and with decorative cast iron openwork panelled sides, a chamfered doorway with a 4-centred arched head and a ledged and battened door. The single-bay part to the left has a ground floor 3-light casement with a cambered brick head and a first floor 2-light casement. The single-bay part to the right has a ground floor C19 canted bay window and a 2-light first floor casement. The rear elevation of the central part has retained some of its chamfered mullioned windows with hoodmoulds and there is a chamfered doorway with a 4-centred head, similar but with better detail than that in the front elevation. Also at the rear is a large C17 external chimney with offsets. The stable adjoins the right gable end and is built of rubble with slate roof. Two levels and probably of three bays with two rectangular lights in its front elevation and an attic light in its gable end. The farmhouse and adjoining stable are situated close to Cider Mill Cottages and Old Thatch (qv). Included for group value.
