3/42 Crownlands Cottage

House. Early C18. Timber-framed and rendered; thatched roof. One storey and
attics; 3-cell form, with the 3rd unit an addition of c.1800, to form 2
cottages out of one. Chimney-stack in 2 phases: red brick, older left half.
One square-headed dormer with a 2-light casement window; on the ground floor,
one 2-light and one 3-light mid-C20 metal casement windows and one 2-light
window with horizontal bars in traditional style. Plank door. A small
single-storey pantiled lean-to on the right also with a plank door. Interior
with framing exposed: some main components reused, part of rear wallplate
formerly a post with notched lap housing. Main beams with worn chamfer,
joists set on edge, and in one room unusually curved. The original house was
probably of 2-cell end-chimney form.
