2 former east lodges with gate piers to Gibside Estate. Circa 1860. Sandstone
ashlar in Gothic style. Side walls rubble stone. One-storey, one-bay,
square lodges with plinth, cornice and castellated parapet. 4-panel doors
on inner returns have pointed fanlights in stepped, 2-centred-arched recesses,
the whole in slightly projecting sections. Each front has a pointed-arched
sash window. Moulded and fluted impost strings. Piers: 2 ashlar piers
between the lodges. Square plinths. Roll mouldings to plinth and beneath
overhanging cornices; shallow pyramidal caps.
