18/1 Abbey churchyard
west wall and
gateway

G.V. II

Gateway to churchyard with attached wall running approximately 33
metres to the south. c.1870. Limestone ashlar. Pair of
gatepiers with rectangular plinths and piers, the latter with
single inscribed shields. Broad chamfered cornice with small
foliate motifs and dentillated band above. Ornate wrought iron
gates. Smaller pier immediately to the left of north pier with
plain plinth; chamfered, broached pier and 4 upper gablets and
finial. 2 similar piers placed regularly on low wall running
southwards, the latter topped by wrought iron railings.
