11/242 Higgs monument in churchyard
about 6.5m north of north aisle
of church towards west end,
Church of St. Peter and St.Paul

GV II

Chest tomb; Silvanus Higgs, died 1764; stone. Flat lid, wide
projection with hollow chamfer. Quarter-square gadrooned
balusters at corners. Sides main central panel flanked by narrow
ends. In top of centre head with wings, swags to pendant rings in
corners, with flowers and ribbon down sides. Main centre for
lettering cut back at edges to give relief to carving. Carving on
flanking panels. Ends serpent of eternity around hourglass,
fronds above, scrolls below. Monument sunk somewhat into ground.
