Description

TF 09 NR HOLTON LE MOOR CHURCH LANE
(north side)
5/10 Pigeoncote at
Barkworth Farm

II

Pigeoncote; early C19; red brick with conical slate roof;
octagonal plan; two and a half storey, with dentilated eaves
course, and scalloped fascia board, the corners are in a lighter
orange brickwork giving a polychromatic effect. The half ground
floor has a single door opening with segmental head; immediately
above this is a further door opening to the 1st floor level with
a projecting iron platform. The openings to 1st and 2nd floor
level only, consist of small lancets with chamfered jambs, a
single opening to each face alternating from 1st to 2nd floor.
Inside are radiating perch spokes and the remains of a turn table
system. Access to the 2nd floor appears to have been by an
external ladder to a door opening at the rear.
