One of the Belvoir Angels headstones, the work of a Hickling craftsman. The top of the epitaph is chipped away but reads -Grieve not for me my glass is run/ It is the Lord his will be done-. The winged cherubs head with hourglass and crossed bones to the sides is folk-art, encouraging the departed soul to fly to Heaven. To John Chamberlin d. 29th Sept 1698 aet 86. Stylistically, the work looks as late as 1718, though others, at Ab Kettleby, bear early dates. (Photo Aug 2013).
