Canal engine house. c.1837. Possibly by John Sinclair, engineer to the Coventry
Canal Company. English bond blue brick with dentil cornice. Late C20 plain-tile
shallow-hipped roof. 3 storeys; 2-window range to canal. Right bay projects very
slightly, but cornice is unbroken. Round-arched openings throughout. Windows are
all-blocked, mostly late C20, except for right bay on top floor. Return sides
have blocked top-floor windows. Left return side has doorway. Right return side
has large blocked opening, Tall tapering octagonal chimney attached to rear
corner has moulded brick cornice. To rear are fragments of a single-storey range
demolished late C20. The building formerly housed a Newcomen pumping engine used
to maintain the canal level.
