SP20NW FILKINS AND BROUGHTON POGGS

1/165 College Farmhouse and Cottage

GV II
Farmhouse and cottage. Early C19 with slight C20 alterations. Coursed rubble
limestone with brick quoins and window dressings. C20 concrete tile roof to main
part of house, stone slates to lower cottage range. Brick chimneys. Main part of
house is of 2 storeys and an attic, and 3 bays. Old 3-light windows with wooden
mullions, central opening metal casements and flanking fixed wooden lights, each
light with single horizontal glazing bar. Windows have bonded brick jambs and
flat brick arches. Central C20 6-panelled top-lit door in similar surround.
Centre bay also has C20 hipped roof dormer with 2-light barred wooden casement.
To centre rear is a stair projection with a later C19 extension and door in
porch made of 2 large stone slabs. Slightly set back to right of main house is a
lower 2-storey range of 3 bays with mid C19 2-bay cottage extension. 2 and
3-light casements with single horizontal glazing bars, those to cottage in
dressed stone surrounds. Earlier part has 2 doorways to centre, the left with
lean-to slate hood, the right blocked. C20 door to centre of extension. Built as
estate farmhouse for Trinity College, Oxford.
