8/227 The Cottage

GV II
House. Late C17 altered late C19/early C20. Coursed squared marlstone; concrete
plain-tile roof with brick end stacks. 2-unit through-passage plan. 2 storeys
plus attic. Front has symmetrical 3-window arrangement of short sashes,
narrower in the middle bay above the entrance; all openings have C20 rusticated
render surrounds. To right of the doorway is an ashlar scraper recess.
Steep-pitched roof has gable parapets. Interior: chamfered spine beams;
inglenook fireplace with chamfered bressumer; winder stair from first floor to
attic; C17 trusses with principals crossing at the apex.
