Church Farmhouse

Farmhouse. c.1740-50. Flemish garden wall bond brick; gabled plain tile roofs
with brick-coped gable ends; brick end stacks. Double-depth plan. 2 storeys and
attic; 2-window range. Enlarged mid C20 windows; dentilled eaves cornice; gabled
dormers. Left side wall has segmental arches over 12-pane sashes and hipped
porch; triple-gabled rear elevation has two C18 two-light wood-mullioned casements
(one with original turnbuckles etc) to central recessed gable. Interior: room to
left has mid C18 cupboard and fireplace surround, and reused C17 stop-chamfered
beam; room to rear left has mid C18 dado, reeded box shutters to side-elevation
sash and mid C19 marble fireplace; fine open-well staircase of c.1740 with moulded
handrail and turned balusters set on closed string. Chamfered first-floor beams
include raised C17 stop-chamfered beam in room on right. Mid C18 plank and
panelled doors, some with original Norfolk latches snecks and strap hinges; attic
has reused C17 ribbed doors.
