Numbers 48 and 49 comprise an altered two storey building with attics. There are two enlarged gabled dormer casements in the steep pantile roof. It has stippled render on the first floor with three flush-frame windows with altered glazing. There are two late-C20 shop fronts at ground floor.
All the listed buildings on the northern side of the Market Place form a group.

North Walsham is a medieval market town that grew wealthy from the trade of wool and cloth. The town was largely rebuilt following a fire in 1600 but remained a significant market centre into the Industrial Revolution.
The building dates from the C17 or early C18. It was depicted on the 1842 Tithe map as a rectangular building with the long axis bordering the Market Place. It was recorded as a house and shop at that time. It is similarly depicted on the 1885 first edition Ordnance Survey map.
