LEEDS

SE2934SW CLARENDON ROAD
714-1/73/124 (North side)
Boundary wall to No.20, Clarendon
House

GV II

Boundary wall. c1855. Red brick, English and stretcher bonds,
flat stone copings. Approximately 90m long overall, extending
from the SE corner of Claremont House (qv) on Hyde Street,
along Clarendon Road, turning the corner into Hyde Place and a
short distance into Hyde Terrace. The E and S lengths are
plain, approx 4m high to Hyde Street, reduced to 2m along
Clarendon Road, with flat coping stones; a narrow gateway with
stone reveals and wrought-iron overthrow with lantern bracket
opposite the house main entrance. The corner to Hyde Place and
the remainder of the walling is more ornate, with brick
pilasters and dentil frieze which matches the brick ornament
on the house; there are 6 quarter-round steps up along Hyde
Place and a finely-moulded round-arched gateway near the
corner to Hyde Terrace.
