GV II

Roadside railings with gate piers and gate to former tannery
(qv). Probably 1866 for Edward Kitchen, as tannery; ironware
by Grayson & Hardesty, Leeds (on standard). Coursed squared
and ashlar sandstone, cast-iron.
Dwarf wall with oversailing, chamfered ashlar coping supports
railings which have round-sectioned, corniced and orb-finialed
standards alternately with scrolled brackets to wall. At right
(SE) end are square-sectioned ashlar gate piers with plinths,
colonnettes at angles and swept, domed caps; gate with spiked
rods, small pedestrian opening, rolling-wheel at closing end,
rebuilding in progress at time of survey.
