Formerly known as: The Builders' Inn NORTH STREET.
Public house. Early C19. Painted brick, low-pitched slate
hipped roof. Bracketed eaves. 3 storeys, 3+1 windows, corner
site with 3 windows to left return.
Door with overlight in moulded surround with cornice, canted

arches. Eaves brackets. Small early C19 shop window on right

The building was constructed in 1826 by James Bussey,

son, Robert, opened The Builders' Inn and combined the trades
of plaster, colourer and whitewasher with that of retail ale
and porter dealer. After several changes of name the McQuat
Brothers, brewers, of Meadow Lane, bought The Eagle in 1914.
In 1947 the brewery, with 9 public houses, was bought by
Samuel Smith, brewery of Tadcaster.
