Town house, now shop and guest house. c1770. Painted sandstone
and Flemish bond brown brick with ridge parallel with front.
EXTERIOR: semi-basement and 3 storeys. The stone basement
storey has a simple plinth, replaced part-glazed framed and
boarded double doors and a raised band. The upper storeys are
brick. The first storey has 2 doors side by side, north, each
with a flight of steps divided by a brick parapet; the north
flight renewed, the south flight of stone. The north door is
6-panel with looped radial-bar fanlight in a simple moulded
case; the south door of 2 fielded panels above 2 flush panels
has a patterned radial-bar fanlight, probably c1900, in a
pedimented case with panelled plinths, fluted pilasters, swags
and dentilled open pediment. Almost flush sashes with keyed
wedge lintels: painted stone sill to tripartite 4;12;4 pane
sash to the first storey; sillband and two 16-pane sashes to
second storey; painted stone sills to 2 unequal 12-pane sashes
to third storey; stone cornice and blocking-course; parapet
end-gables have flush chimneys; a chimney behind the ridge.
Cast-iron rainwater pipe at junction with No.3 (qv).
The rear has miscellaneous fenestration.
INTERIOR could not be inspected but is likely to contain
features of interest.
