Town house, now hostel. Mid C18 with minor alterations.
Flemish bond brown brick; double depth grey slate roofs.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys; the main front is to Nicholas Street
mews. Double fronted: painted sandstone plinth; 4 stone steps
to door of 6 fielded panels with 3-pane overlight and replaced
simplified pedimented doorcase; recessed 12-pane sash to each
side of door; similar sash to second-storey above door, with
larger 12-pane sash to left and blocked window opening to
right; third storey has 6-pane sash above door, tripartite
sash of 2;6;2 panes to left and blocked opening to right; all
windows have plain stone sills and gauged brick cambered
arches; kneeler and plain stone coping to parapet, which is
carried at ridge level between the 2 gables. The left end to
Watergate Street is plain, with 2 blocked window openings to
third storey. A small service wing of irregular form has two
16-pane flush sashes and gable kneelers.
INTERIOR: has doors of 6 fielded panels in first and third
storeys, doors of 3 broad panels in the second storey; the
dogleg stair has an altered handrail on stick balusters
between first and second storey; in the third storey the swept
handrail to the lower flights survives, heavily painted.
