HAMSTERLEY HAMSTERLEY NY1131 23/69 Guide post opposite No. 1 South View Cottages Guide post. Probably third quarter of C19. Cast iron. Round post c. 1.7 metres high with ball finial; low relief 'BARNARD CASTLE 12 MILE' (sic) and 'WOODLAND 4 1/2"'on west indicator, and 'BISHOP AUCKLAND 7 1/4 MILES/WEST AUCKLAND 5"/EVENWOOD 5 1/2"' on south-east indicator, both fastened by bolts to flanges on post.
Similar east indicator to Witton le Wear, Crook and Hunwick.
