Chest tomb. c.1816. In Neo-Classical style. Ashlar. Chamfered base stone.
Moulded plinth. Recessed corners with fluted balusters, having swept plinths
and capitals, supporting lid with triple-roll-moulded edge. Each side has
concave-cornered panel in architrave with fan decoration to spandrels, the
panels bearing commemorative inscriptions to various members of the Wood family,
the earliest death recorded being that of George Wood, d.1816: 'A fatal accident
deprived him of life and his afflicted parents of a darling son', followed by
verse (much obliterated). Lid split and one corner broken off.
