Chest tomb surmounted by figure of sleeping lion. c1850. Marble. Rectangular plan chest with recessed panels, some inscribed. Coved cornice and projecting lid surmounted by sculptured sleeping lion, right hand paw resting on left, on stepped plinth.
HISTORICAL NOTE: George Wombwell was the founder of Wombwell's Menageries, which became the largest travelling menagerie in England.
