Pleasure pier. 1859-60. By J Brunlees; built by W & J
Galloway; extended 1864 and 1868 (to 1342m); subsequently
shortened after fire in 1897, pier head and pavilion destroyed
by fire 1933. Further fire damage in 1959.
Cast-iron and wood. 4 rows of linked cast-iron columns
carrying girders; wooden boarded deck.
Cafe built at seaward end in 1963, entrance range rebuilt
1970.
