Stable block, now riding school and stables and dwellings.
Dated 1865, for Alexander Grant-Thorold of Weelsby Old Hall;
east range raised to 2 storeys 1992-3 in similar style and
materials. Red brick with Welsh slate roof. U-shaped on plan,
enclosing stableyard, with wall and railings across south
side.

EXTERIOR: 2-storeys; each range with 4 first-floor windows.
Stable, coach-house and granary range to north, stable and
granary range to west side, loose-box and tack-room range to
east side, originally single-storey, now 2 storeys. Second
storey throughout now used as dwellings. Plinth, dentilled
brick first-floor sill band and dentilled eaves cornice
throughout. North range: south courtyard front has 3 central
segmental-arched carriage entrances with double doors flanked
by pairs of board doors to stables with 3-pane overlights
beneath segmental arches. First-floor: C20 6-pane casements in
original square-headed openings with rusticated brick Gibb's
surrounds and stone sills on brick dentils. Central stone
plaque with "AGT" cypher and date carved in relief. Above this
is a narrow raised gable with moulded brick kneelers and
stone-coping with ball finials, containing a circular
clockface in a rubbed-brick surround with keystones. Central
octagonal bellcote with louvred sides and pointed arches
supporting the corners of a pyramidal spire with ornate
wrought-iron weather-vane.
West range: courtyard front has board door to far left, pair
of ground-floor windows and first-floor windows similar to
north range. Left return has single window with 3 vertical
lights in similar rusticated surround.
East range: courtyard front has board door to left beneath
segmental arch with 6-pane window to right in rusticated
surround; 2 wide segmental-arched openings to the right with
inserted stable doors flanked by barred side-lights and brick
blocking. Hipped roofs with iron finials. Stack to west range
with tumbled-in brick base.
Rear has similar windows to courtyard front. North side of
north range has row of small ventilators and 9 first-floor
windows in groups of 3. East side of east range has
ground-floor window and original board door to first-floor
right. West side of west range has ground-floor window, 3
first-floor windows and a blocked first-floor door. Small yard
to west enclosed in a wall with dentilled brick and stone
coping, and 2 arched doorways, one beneath a dentilled brick
band.

INTERIOR: stables in north range have patterned tiled walls,
herringbone brick floors, 4-bay wooden arcade to stalls with
chamfered piers, moulded capitals and round arches with
pierced roundels in spandrels.

SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: railings close yard to south: low plinth
wall supporting circular-section wrought-iron railings between
central gatepiers.
Originally built as stable block to Weelsby Hall (qv).
