Terraced houses. c1818. Probably by Amon Wilds and Amon Henry
Wilds. Stucco to ground floor, brick above now painted except
to No.57; roof of artificial slate to No.57, otherwise
obscured by parapet.
EXTERIOR: No.57 four storeys over basement with dormers, Nos

once formed a symmetrical group with a pedimented parapet to
No.58; they are flanked by full-height panelled pilasters.
Ground floor decorated with banded rustication; Ionic prostyle
porches, the entablature partly missing on No.58; round-arched
entrance with fanlight, that to No.58 having decorative
glazing, the entrance to No.59 now a window. 4-storey and
almost full-width segmental bay with verandah to first floor
with cast-iron railings, the canopy to No.58 missing, that to
No.59 much altered; No.59 has blind boxes to ground and second
floor; cornice-cum-sill band to third-floor windows,
simplified on No.57; attic windows segmental-arched and set
back under a segmental arch; No.58 has sashes of original
design to second floor; cornice and balustrade, the balustrade
reduced to blocking course on No.57 which has dormers in
mansard roof; No.59 now carried up to 4th floor; 4th floor of
No.58 flanked by antefixae, with pediment decorated with
palmette ornament and rinceau frieze; stacks to party walls.
INTERIOR: No.58 has a dogleg staircase with turned newel,
curtail step, wreathed handrail, stick balusters, decorated
open string and dado moulding as far as the second floor, then
a secondary stair with plain string; the panelled doors to the
ground and first floors have intricately moulded architraves
with floral ornament to corners, that to the half-landing
curved with the apsidal plan of the staircase; simpler
architraves generally elsewhere; ground-floor front room has
fireplace of early or mid-C19 date, and plaster frieze and
ceiling moulding. Interiors of Nos 57 and 59 not inspected.
Cast-iron railings to steps and area with conical finials.
