Includes: No.45 BEAUCHAMP AVENUE.
House, now 2 houses and attached railings. c1820-1838, with
later alterations. Brick with painted stucco facades, Welsh
slate roof and cast-iron railings and verandah.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys with basement and attic, 5 first-floor
windows, the centre 3 project. Giant Tuscan pilasters clasp
angles of projection to ground and first floors. First floor:
centre and outer windows are 6/6 sashes, otherwise narrow 4/4
sashes, all in plain reveals and with sills. Frieze, cornice,
blocking course to projection conceals French windows with
margin lights to attic in gable; copings. Ground floor: double
flight of steps to central entrance a 5-panel, part-glazed
door with overlight with glazing bars, within panelled recess,
surround has fluted Doric pilasters, frieze with 3 laurel
wreaths, cornice and pediment. Basement: panel doors, two 6/6
sashes, otherwise casements. End and roof stacks.
Left return of 2 storeys, 3 first-floor windows. First floor:
6/6 sashes in plain reveals, that to right with sill,
otherwise with tooled architraves. Frieze, cornice, blocking
course. Ground floor: entrance to left a part-glazed, 4-panel
door with fanlight with radial glazing within screen porch
with fluted Doric column to left and plain pilaster to right.
2 tall 6/9 sashes and 10-pane French window with
margin-lights, all with tooled architraves and under verandah
with elongated-scroll-and-circle motif.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: railings with ornate lancet finials to
front; gates to steps.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Arlington Avenue, formerly Arlington Street,
was laid out in the 1820s.
