Pair of semi-detached villas. c1828-1834 with later additions
and alterations. Pinkish-brown brick with stucco front and
side facades, painted to No.25, Welsh slate roof, cast-iron
verandahs with lead roof, brass hardware.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys with basement, 4 first-floor-window range
with recessed, 2-lower-storey single window entrance ranges to
sides. Quoins to full height of main range to right dwelling
(No.25).
First floor, main range: 6/6 sashes in plain reveals and with
moulded architraves and sills on plain corbels. Side range has
casement to left, and 2/2 sash in moulded architrave and with
sill to right; copings to left, frieze, cornice and blocking
course to right. Second floor: 3/6 sashes in plain reveals,
with tooled, eared architraves and sills.
Ground floor: main range has 6/9 full-height sashes with
tooled, eared architraves.
Entrance to side bays, 4-panel doors; to right, square Tuscan
pillars support further first floor extension to right.
Basement has 8/8 sashes. Stepped frieze, cornice, blocking
course. Verandah continues from entrance range across front
supported on latticed columns and with anthemion-on-rod
balustrade. Door to right has lion-knocker and bell-pull.
Basement has 8/8 sash. Stepped frieze, cornice, blocking
course, copings. End and centre stacks with cornices.
INTERIOR: staircases, alike, openwell staircases have
alternate stick and rod-with-central-bobbin balusters,
wreathed handrail. To No.25: front room has a marble
chimneypiece; cornice with grape motif; shutters to windows.
Some 4-panel doors.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Binswood Avenue was laid out c1828, those
houses to the west were completed by 1834.
Nos 1-29 (odd) Binswood Avenue (qqv) form an architectural

group.
