Villa and attached wall. c1835-1838 with later alterations.
Architect, William Thomas. Pinkish-brown brick with painted,
cement-rendered facade and Welsh slate roof.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys, 3 first-floor windows. All 3 bays have
pointed gable to front, the two outer bays are wider and
project. Neo-Gothic style. First floor: to left and right are
pairs of 4-pane lancet windows with margin-lights in
chamfered, straight-headed surrounds; similar single window to
centre. Second floor: similar single-light lancets in
chamfered surrounds. 7 steps to central entrance a
pointed-arched door with Gothic panels in chamfered surround
within projecting porch with 4-centred arch and chamfered
surround. To left a 6/6 sash with Gothic glazing bars. To
right a pair of 3-pane lancet windows in straight-headed,
chamfered surround. End stack, copings.
INTERIOR: not included.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: embattled wall abuts to right.
HISTORICAL NOTE: a map of 1834 shows Lansdowne Circus and
Crescent laid out for 'intended buildings'.
Lansdowne Circus forms an architectural group with Victoria
House and Nos 19-57 (odd) Lansdowne Crescent (qqv), all by
William Thomas.
