Grove House and attached railings

GV II

Villa and attached railings. c1830 with later additions and
alterations. Probably by James Morgan. Reddish-brown brick
with painted stucco front and right facades, Welsh slate roof
and cast-iron railings.
2 storeys with basement and attic, 3 first-floor windows. 4
steps to central entrance a 5-panel door with overlight with
glazing bars within architrave of Tuscan pilasters, frieze,
cornice and engaged blocking course. 6/6 sashes throughout in
tooled surrounds. Pedimented gable end to front has 3/6 sash
to centre with tooled surround.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: ornamental lancet railings across front.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Newbold Street was laid out in 1826.
Forms an architectural group with Nos 10-38 (even) Hamilton
Terrace and No.40 Holly Walk (qqv).
