Formerly known as: Milverton Lawn WARWICK NEW ROAD.
Villa with coach house and stable range. 1860-1870 with later
additions and alterations. Designed by GT Robinson for H
Lloyd. Limestone ashlar with Welsh slate hipped roof with
stone stacks grouped centrally at corners of low staircase
tower and linked by pierced balustrade, cast-iron balustrade.
STYLE: elaborate Late Classical with Egyptian decorative
motifs.
PLAN: double-depth. Main range and closely-linked ballroom
range. 2 storeys and attic, 3 first-floor windows to main
range; ballroom range to left; coach house and stables to
right.
EXTERIOR: main range has rusticated plinth, moulded
first-floor band, elaborately-decorated cornice supported on
consoles. First floor has 2/2 sashes. Ground floor has 1/1
sashes; all windows with decorative heads. Central entrance an
8-panel door recessed within stone surround of fluted
pilasters on shaped pedestals, entablature with moulded
cornice. Attic: three 4-pane sash dormers with carved and
decorated stone surrounds. Ballroom range: 2 and 3 storeys,
set at mezzanine level, its row of 4 windows interspaced by
square piers. Below, a rusticated stone wall conceals the
Kitchen Court and links to the stable yard in similar but
simpler style, with Coach House and Stables: 4-window range
with large, square bay to right, the cornice of which is
supported by consoles formed of male and female carved busts.
Rear facade is also a 4-window range with, to left, a door and
narrow sashes set in stone surround with fluted pilasters and
entablature. Windows similar to Ballroom range, with cast-iron
balustrade.
INTERIOR: staircase has white marble treads and coloured
marble balustrade with turned balusters. Several contemporary
coloured and white marble and wood fireplaces. Ballroom is
reputed to retain barrel-vaulted ceiling above present one.
