3 houses, now shops with showrooms and flats over. c1822-26
with later additions and alterations including mid-C20
ground-floor shop fronts. Reddish-brown brick stacks with
painted stucco front facades and Welsh slates to centre,
otherwise cement-tile roofs.
EXTERIOR: 4 storeys, 8 first-floor openings. Single-window bay
to left and 3-window bay to right project, to right projection
are Tuscan pilasters through 1st and 2nd floors. First floor:
2 tall 6/6 sashes, blind opening, 2 tall 6/6 sashes, and 3 C20
windows, all in plain reveals. Second-floor band.
Second floor: two 6/6 sashes, blind opening, two 6/6 sashes, 3
C20 windows, all in plain reveals and with sills. Frieze,
architrave, dentil cornice.
Third floor: two 3/3 sashes, blind opening, 6-pane fixed-light
window, 3/3 sash, casement window and 2 blind openings, all in
plain reveals. Blocking course, copings.
Ground floor: to left, 3 roll-edged steps to 6-panel door with
overlight; 2 shop fronts with glazed entrances; 4 steps to
4-panel door with fielded-panel reveals and blocked overlight,
then further glazed shop front. 2 ridge stacks, that to left
with cornice, rear stack to right. To second-floor band, to
left, in raised letters 'CHANDOS HOUSE'.
Left return: 4 storeys, 5-window range. Through first and
second floors are plain pilasters to left and right and to
either side of central window. C20 windows throughout in
original openings, 3 to first floor, otherwise 5, blind
openings to left window to 3rd and 4th floors all in plain
reveals, with sills except to 3rd, floor. Frieze, architrave
and cornice to second floor. Surmounting blocking course and
copings. Further range to rear.
To rear of Nos 81 & 83 are 8/8, 6/6 and 4/4 sashes.
INTERIOR: Nos 81 & 83 have dogleg staircases with stick
balusters.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Warwick Street was laid out c1822-26.
