GV II

Barn and cow house, converted to houses 1994. Late C18 with
late C20 alterations. Red brick; tile roof. Barn has L-plan
open-fronted shed to north end and L-plan cow house to west of
south end.
EXTERIOR: barn of 7 bays. Has exposed wall plates. 2 threshing
floors with C20 glazed infill to entrances to each side, that
to south still retaining limestone sills. East side facing
yard has inserted segmental-headed windows and entrance to
left end, small 1st floor lights and skylights. Ventilation
holes in rows. Wrought iron weather vane with fox to left end.
West side has similar openings and original entrance to left
end. 4-bay stable projecting to south end has cogged brick
cornice; inner return has segmental-headed entrance with old
hinges and latch to renewed plank door; segmental-headed
window to each end with sliding-slat ventilation openings.
Signs of external stair to 1st floor entrance. End has
pitching door; outer return has 2 entrances and 2 late C20
gabled half-dormers.
2 storey cow house to south end has some rebuilding; pair of
wide entrances to west and open front with 4 brick piers to
north; most roof trusses renewed.
INTERIOR: barn has brick piers supporting queen-post roof with
collars, truncated principals and double purlins; stone flags
to threshing floors, some removed; left end bay recorded as
having later floor.
Cow house has 3 chamfered beams supporting tall queen struts
to interrupted tie-beam trusses with collars and principals
halved and crossed to ridge; brick floor, raised to north
side.
Included for group value with Alderminster Farmhouse (qv).
