PRESTON ON STOUR

SP2049 Group of 4 chest tombs approx. 7m
1912-1/12/133 south-east of Church of St Mary

GV II

Group of 4 chest tombs. Late C18 and early C19. Ashlar. From
north to south: George Millward, d.1783, and Ann Millward,
d.1822; c1820; plain chest on chamfered plinth, the side
panels with reeded panels to ends. Next to south: Mary Smith,
d.1773, and William Smith, d.1782; moulded plinth and sunk
square balusters flanking 2 fielded panels to each side;
moulded top edge. Next to south: inscription worn, date of
death 1771; similar to 2nd but finer detail to mouldings.
Southernmost chest is brick with ashlar top slab.
