Farmhouse with attached outbuilding, now house. Probably early
to mid C18; altered. White-washed random rubble with quoins,
stone slate roof to main range and corrugated sheet to
outbuilding. Single-depth 2-unit plan on east-west axis facing
north, with outbuilding continued along higher ground at west
end.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, 4:1 windows. The 4-window main range,
almost symmetrical, has a gabled porch offset left and four
12-pane sashes on each floor, in vertical alignment and all
with exposed boxes. Gable chimney to left, ridge chimney in
centre and another at junction to right. The outbuilding to
the right has steps up to a doorway offset left of centre, and
a small formerly 2-light mullioned window to the left lacking
the mullion.
INTERIOR: the outbuilding has a stone fireplace against the
gable wall and to the left of that a built-in rectangular
"bakstone" (for baking oatcakes and the like) with a
stone-flagged front which has a small rectangular fire-box
with an arched draw-hole beneath; and a rectangular recess in
the front wall containing a large cheese-press with wooden
frame, stone and screw still apparently in working order. The
bakstone, which probably dates from c1800, is a rare survival
(the only other on this list is at High Barth, qv).
