House. Early C18, remodelled and extended c1730; c1840
extension to rear.
MATERIALS: plum-coloured Flemish bond brick with red brick
dressings, rendered to left side wall and over timber-frame to
rear. Gabled plain tile and pantile roof with dormers and
moulded wood eaves cornice; brick stacks.
PLAN: central staircase plan, originally 1 room deep, extended
to rear c1730 and later, to make double depth plan.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and attic, 5 bays. Panelled door with
overlight set in early C18 doorcase with pilasters to cornice.
Gauged, cambered brick arches to 4-pane ground and 12-pane
1st-floor sash windows with flush frames. Moulded brick string
course between floors.
Rear: lean-to roofs over c1730 extension for staircase, with
horizontal sliding sash above C19 glazing bar sash, and right
rear bay; early C19 2-storey extension to rear left, with
4-pane sashes.
INTERIOR: complete early C18 interior with panelled shutters
and doors set in moulded wood architraves. Panelled hall with
moulded dado rail and cornice. Early C18 staircase, reset as
dogleg staircase c1730, has barleytwist-on-vase and
column-on-vase balusters on closed string with moulded
handrail and heavy barleysugar newel post.
Ground-floor room to front right with fielded panelling,
moulded dado and cornice and bolection-moulded overmantel over
fireplace; simpler panelled room with straight-cut panelling
and moulded cornice to rear right; similar panelled room with
cupboard adjoining early C19 marble fireplace to front left;
similar panelling to 3 first-floor rooms, with early C19
fireplace to front left.
Attic has C18 common-rafter roof, with halved collars; C17
plank door to cellar, which has reused medieval beams and
squared stonework of possible medieval origins to left side
wall.
