774-1/8/122 HMS Centurion Memorial

GV II

Monument. c1902. Granite. Polished pink granite column with
elaborate finial on square base set on grey unpolished granite
stepped sub-base, metal leaf motif at centre of column, and a
bronze bust depicting a Centurion set into the base. Erected
by "Admiral Sir C.H. Seymore, G.C.B., the Captain, Officers
and Ship's Company at H.M.S. Centurion". "In memory of the
officers and men of that ship who were killed or died of
wounds received whilst gallantly doing their duty in the Naval
Brigade, North China, 1900." "Also in memory of those officers
and men who died during the commission 1897-1901". A list of
casualties is given together with the following place names:
Peitsang, Hsiku, Peiyangy Tientsin.
