Cotton spinning mill. 1903, built by G Temperly for Falcon
Mill Ltd. Brick with yellow brick bands. Flat roof and
internal concrete and steel construction.
EXTERIOR AND PLAN: 6 storey, 9x8 bays, with tower in
south-west corner. 3 large flat-headed windows in each bay (2
windows in shorter north elevation), with yellow and blue
brick lintels, and stone sills. Tower has terracotta dressings
and steep pavilion roof behind parapet. Canopy over modified
loading bay in south elevation, with added lift tower.
Projecting block at south-east corner may possibly incorporate
remains of original engine house and boiler house, but is
largely later C20. Privy tower projects from north-east angle,
and there is a 2-storey card room extension along the eastern
side of the mill. Chimney offset to south-east of site.
Heavily modified entrance lodge adjoining site entrance to
west.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Reputed to be one of the first mills to be equipped with
concrete filler joist floors, but the internal structure has
been modified.
