GV II

House. Mid C18. Brick with slate roof. 3 storeys, 5-window
range with pedimented advanced central bay. Central entrance,
with rendered surround to doorway, and flat-arched gauged
brick head above. Canted bay window to right, probably added
late C19, and squared bay window to left possibly original.
Upper windows are 12-pane sashes with flat-arched gauged brick
heads. Moulded eaves cornice. End wall stacks.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
HISTORY: the house was the childhood home of Mrs Gaskell and
the home of her aunt, Mrs Lumb.
