Nurses' home. 1914. By H G Gamble. Brick with contrasting
brick and stone dressings and hipped slate roofs, with 5 ridge
and 5 side wall stacks. Neo-Georgian style.
EXTERIOR: first floor sill band, rendered coved eaves with
moulded ornament, and a Latin inscription to south. 3 storeys,
20 bays. E-plan. Regular ranges of glazing bar sashes. Ground
floor openings with segmental heads.
Near-symmetrical south front has 3 wings of 3 bays, each with
a 2 storey canted bay window to the upper floors. The wings to
the right have round headed archways at the outer corners.
Between the wings, a 6 bay range to left, with a single storey
full width projection, with parapet and 2 canted bay windows.
Above, 2 sashes flanked by single bay windows, and beyond
them, single sashes.
To the right, a 5 bay range with a full width single storey
projection with 3 bay windows. Above, a central bay window,
flanked on either side by 2 sashes. West side, 9 bays, has
four 2 storey bay windows to the upper floors. Rear elevation
has 3 wings.
